The Extreme Hockey Dribble Challenge is raising funds to support the extraordinary work of Dementia UK, whilst also supporting the ambition of the College to further develop our indoor hockey program by funding new indoor hockey boards. Our 29 hour challenge will be taking place between 07:30 on Thursday 21 May through to 12:30 on Friday 22 May, with all funds raised being split 50:50.
The challenge will involve dribbling the distance between Framlingham College and the Amstelveen Wagner Stadium in the Netherlands, the location for the Hockey World Cup. This is 648km or 2211 laps of Inskips. During the challenge two balls will be continuously dribbled, representing both the Women's and Men's respective journey's to the World Cup.
Anyone can dribble a lap (or more!) and we welcome pupils, parents, staff and OF's to take part. There will be a pizza van and coffee shop stall available on Thursday evening alongside a series of fun games to play on Inskips. Whilst the challenge is open to the wider College community, only 1st XI players from the College will be invited to participate in the overnight session.
Developing Indoor Hockey
Maintaining our position at the forefront of schools' hockey, will only happen if we are able to attract high class coaches, recruit pupils with an ambition in the sport and crucially maintain a high standard of hockey facilities.
The recent upgrades to Inskips has been hugely beneficial to our pupils at both the prep and senior schools, and as part of our broader hockey program at Framlingham we are now looking to develop our indoor facilities. Investing in our indoor facilities, will not only develop our pupils indoor hockey skills, which in turn will benefit their outdoor 'game', it will also enable Framlingham to broaden our hockey program, host regional tournaments and reinforce our standing as a leading hockey destination.
Future Hockey Development
Hockey at Framlingham College caters for all. The vision is to instil a passion for the sport, which will ultimately feed into a desire to progress, improve performance and attract more young hockey players keen to pursue hockey outside of purely the school environment.
We are firmly on the map as one of the most well regarded hockey schools in the UK, working closely with local clubs, to support our pupils player pathway. By way of example, we have joined forces with Framlingham Hockey Club this season to create a men's section and enter a men's team into the England Hockey Leagues for the first time. For pupils who want to play a higher standard of club hockey we have numerous pupils within Harleston Magpies and Ipswich Men's and Ladies teams.
The College also has valuable connections with the Bury St. Edmunds Talent Academy, where we currently have 11 pupils representing the Talent Academy and our Head of Hockey working as Technical Director of the Academy. Talent Academy is part of the England Hockey pathway, enabling weekly coaching from some of the regions top coaches, and joining with other committed and performance hockey players in the region to train and play against other Talent Academies.
At representative level, we currently boast two England Internationals - Holly H in England U18 Girls and JJ O in England U16 Boys. With numerous OF pupils representing England at U21 and Senior level.
Post studying at the College, several of our female players have won scholarships to US universities such as Harvard, Yale, Stanford and Rutgers. This is becoming a real opportunity for those who want to experience a different culture, expand their horizons academically and experience what life as an American Student Athlete can offer.
